Rosemount Australian Fashion Week Coverage 2011 – My First Beauty Reporting Gig

For those of us normals who are wrapped up in the boring ‘everyday’ world, we may have forgotten about that crazy thing called Australian Fashion Week. To some, it is a huge deal. To others, they couldn’t care less. I personally love the whole, insane business of fashion but as you all have heard me yell, I have zero style. Zip. Zilch.

Trends and runway beauty is not something I usually talk about here on The Plastic Diaries, and from time to time I do get asked why. The short reason is that I don’t feel totally comfortable with it. For me, I have always cared about whether it looks good or not, and less on whether it is ‘on-trend’ or not …. but I realise my beliefs would be sacrilegious to some. In fact, some fellow beauty editors may have spat coffee out when I told them that.

When I realised that Rosemount Australian Fashion Week was just weeks away, I started to think about whether this is something that I should cover for you, my beautiful readers. I put the question out to our devoted Facebook & Twitter followers and the response was, well ….. reassuring. It would seem many of you were on the same page as me, you only care about whether it looks good on yourself instead of on the runway. Amen sisters. However, some of you still wanted to be kept up to date and for you ladies, I have just the thing!

Sassybella is one of my most favourite fashion blogs. That girl knows her stuff and I always end up lusting after every item she posts about. If my credit card wasn’t already maxed out, she would be enabling a serious addiction. Recently, my dream came true when the editor, Helen, approached me to cover some of the RAFW backstage beauty. I died …. and then graciously accepted. For those of you who love up-to-the minute fashion and beauty reporting, you will find what you need.

So here is the deal, I will be covering as much backstage beauty I can get my hands on, and it will all go live on Sassybella. Over here at The Plastic Diaries, I will post you a daily rundown of what you can have a read of, as well as the links. I will also be sharing with you some of the more useful tips I learn while on the RAFW rollercoaster, because dare I say, most of you don’t really want to know how to do purple bandana eyes with silver blush. Shocking, but truthful. I will also post some more images that didn’t make the final cut …. in other words, the ones that were crappy.

Officially RAFW doesn’t start until Monday but preview week is well under way. The first horse out of the stable was Napoleon Perdis doing a stunning, played-down look for Thurley. You can read all about it and see the images here and below you will find I have included some of those other crappy images I mentioned above.

Please note, this is like my first attempt at runway beauty reporting so clearly it is going to be a tad amateur. Having said that, I want to know what you think of my first try. Did I do ok? What would you have included that I missed out on? Should I give up and hide in a cave? Let me know by commenting below!

I’ve just read your first submission and it looks good. I think you’ll do fine covering the runway beauty stuff and it adds a slightly different dimension to what you currently present in the plastic diaries.
I look forward to reading some more of your articles :)
    Cheers,
    Kimberley
