My dogs have always been privy to a little puppy cologne here and there, but that was as far as my family would take the grooming thing beyond their monthly session with Caroline, our lovely but slightly crazy dog groomer. But now there seems to be more and more available in the ‘beauty’ isle at the local Pet Barn and big brands are also getting in on the action, such as Kiehl’s. Today I bring you my first ‘Pretty Petty’ review.
Tester: Levi
- Shih-tzu who thinks he is a Doberman
- Ugliest of the clan
- Hobbies: Ripping open garbage bags. Barking in other dogs faces. Falling over.
What I Say ….
- I loved how simple the idea is behind the cleansing spritz, and for Levi this is a great idea because holding him in one place for more than 5 minutes is a 3 person job.
- The instructions called for me to spray all the hair until it is damp and then massage until a light foam appears. The first part was pretty easy as it only took 4-5 pumps per area to get him damp, but no matter how much I massaged I didn’t see any foam appear. For a dog that won’t sit still I could only try for about 5 minutes before he tried to kick me and run off.
- The next part of the instructions said to simply towel dry the hair with a soft absorbent towel. That was easy.
- There is a suggestion to brush the hair for a better appearance but on a short haired dog like Levi I felt that wasn’t too relevant for him.
- Afterwards he smelt like he had just had a proper shower and wash. He remained smelling fresh for another 12 hrs or so before it wore off.
- His hair was a lot softer once it completely dried but I don’t think he looked any shinier.
I wonder if the ‘foaming’ thing is relevant. I was unable to get it to foam so I wonder if this is something that will differ depending on the dog. Levi has really thick, sometimes spikey hair rather than ‘fur’.
Who Should Buy It
This would be best for those with a small to medium sized dog who is well behaved enough to sit still for a few minutes. Also a great option for any pets who have currently undergone surgery or are unable to get a part of their body wet. This product will allow you to wash only the area you apply it to.
What Kiehl’s Say ….
Our no-rinse cleansing spritz is a quick and easy all-over “waterless shampoo” for use between pet grooming sessions. With Chamomile Flower Extract, this mild formula leaves no irritating residue as it effectively cleanses dog’s coat and skin. May also be used for removing stains on coat or to spot clean and deodorize.

Oh lookie, it’s Levi!! Too cute and can I say he’s not one bit ugly in my eyes at all. I want to snuggle him and cuddles! xx
He is great for cuddles if you can catch him. He is kinda like a pig in mud hahaha
I want him. Can I have him?
No you may not. Hehe
too cute!! I love Levi
Hehehe me too, but he isn’t very attractive. Poor bugger
Levi is the sweetest! I’ll have to try this on my pup. Giving him a proper bath is definitely a two person job. How did it do with removing dirt?
Levi has a bit of a big head now that he has been getting so many compliments. Lol
I found the spray cleanser was fine for regular loose dirt on the surface of his hair but it didn’t really work for mud or sand that was buried deep in his hair. That is where I needed the fire hose. I guess it will also depend on the type of hair your dog has.
I can see how much you love Levi!! I wish my dog is as well-behave as Levi too.
Haha, Levi is not very well behaved at all but I do love him
