Napoleon Perdis – Better Off Red Collection Double Agent Rouge, Front Row Red and Lady in Red Reviews, Swatches and Photos

Napoleon Perdis Double Agent Rouge Lip Palette FEATURE

The latest addition to Napoleon Perdis’ stellar lip lineup is the Better Off Red Collection. Included in the collection are 3 lip glosses, 3 lipsticks and an interesting lip palette. I have been putting some of the collection through the ringer for at least a month now, and I am ready to share my findings … along with my crappy images.

Double Agent Rouge Lip Palette

Available in Napoleon Perdis stores and online AU $33 / US $22

Double Agent Rouge Lip Palette

What They Say: Napoleon Perdis Double Agent Rouge is a lip palette containing a semi-matte lipstick, a pressed lip powder and lip brush applicators. The lipstick contains vitamin E and carnauba wax for smooth application while the powder contains Marine Extracts to protect lips.

Double Agent Rouge

What I Say: I have never seen a lip powder in a palette before. In fact, I have never seen a lip powder ….. Ever. The idea of it is intriguing to me, but the execution of it scared me a little. The lipstick part goes on first, which applies smooth thanks to the wax ingredient. The colour is a soft pinky-red at first but the more layers you do, the deeper it gets. The lipstick colour is nice and definitely wearable alone, but without the powder it looks like a pretty regular, slightly glossy lipstick.

I didn’t think the powder would make any difference, but I was wrong. The powder needs to be patted on, which I found a little difficult to do at first, but got used it. Instantly the lip colour is intensified and softened all at the same time. It looks as if a soft-focus lense is over my lips. It is matte, velvety and a uniquely different lip look. I love it!

The palette itself is consistent to all other Napoleon Perdis packaging. It is a clear, fold-open case with a mirror in the lid. It comes with 2 mini lip applicators in the centre. Applying the product with the little applicator is difficult for an unco like me, but true to my strict testing standards, I always test something as it comes. After the first few testings I switched to using a proper long-handled lip brush and it was much easier. I would recommend doing the same. My swatch photos are taken after using the included applicators.

Lady In Red Lip Gloss – Limited Edition

Available in Napoleon Perdis Stores AU $30 / US $25

Lady In Red

What They Say: Napoleon Perdis Lady in Red Lip Gloss applies as a glossy fluid but has the finish of a lipstick lasting up to six hours. The gloss contains Argan oil and cherry extract, which nourish, protect and restore the lips.

Lady In Red

What I Say: Full coverage lip gloss is something I love, but rarely come across in a colour that works for me. In my opinion, this one does. The formula is extremely pigmented and you only need a tiny bit to get the full effect. I actually wipe the applicator off as much as possible before taking to my lips because it is so rich. It applies smooth and glossy, but upon ‘drying’ it tints the lips a bit and the gloss softens to more of a sheen. Removing it can be a little difficult, as with most red lip products, but that just means it lasts even longer when you need it to. This baby is my go-to red at the moment.

Front Row Red Lip Gloss – Limited Edition

Available in Napoleon Perdis Stores AU $30 / US $25

Front Row Red

What They Say: Napoleon Perdis Front Row Red Lip Gloss is a long lasting gloss with a creamy, high-pigment texture. The gloss lasts up to 10 hours but keeps lips hydrated and nourished due to organic ingredients including Brazil nut seed oil and peach extract.

Front Row Red

What I Say: This gloss is very similar to Lady In Red but a much darker, almost burgundy-esque colour. Again you only need a tiny amount to get a decent amount of colour. I found this formula felt a little bit dryer both when applying and after letting it sit for a bit. The colour doesn’t apply evenly for me, unlike Lady In Red where the colour was perfect, no matter what section I applied a little more to. I get that it is designed to layer for intensity, but applying even layers is extremely difficult for me. It also tints almost upon contact so getting it outside the lip line was a disaster. As you can see from my photos, despite several attempts to remove it from the outside of my mouth, it is obviously visible. All in all, I don’t like this one very much because I just don’t have the skill to apply it.

What a shame that last one didn’t work for you. I think I’d wear all of these! I’m particularly intrigued by the lip palette. I imagine that pressing the powder over the top would have made it last ages, too.

    • Kimmi says:

Olgie, you are very correct. I think the powder does give a strange sort of ‘seal’ because there are barely any print marks left behind on my tea cup when I use it. I guess it is like how powdering over foundation works. I never thought of that before!

  2. That sucks about Front Row Red, because the colour is beautiful! I’m really intrigued by the lip powder – was it uncomfortable to wear?

    • Kimmi says:

No it is soooo comfortable to wear. It is strange at first because I expected to have powder falling off my lips but it really does stay once it is on.

  3. Haute Style says:

Very interesting… I’ve never ever seen a “powder lipstick” before… thanks for the awesome review! These reds are gorgeous!

  4. Hey there! I loved this post. I’m a huge advocate for red lips. Red is classic and can work on everybody as long as you find the right red. It’s so unfortunate that so many are afraid of wearing red.

I enjoyed your color combos. I think if you added a slightly darker red lip pencil, it would’ve taken the look a step further to bring even more dimension to your lips.

    Very pretty. :-)

    • Kimmi says:

I agree with you, red is so classic and it is a right shame that many people are afraid to give it a go. I hope my post will show some people that red comes in many forms and it can be very wearable.

    Scaryyyyyyy

I am absolutely fascinated with the lip palette/powder thing! I’m going to have to get my hands on it.
