Jet Peel Medical Skin Treatment Review, Before & After Photos

Notice the slight lift on the jawline

Last week I was lucky enough to be offered a chance to try out a new skin treatment called ‘Jet Peel’. I thought the name sounded awfully painful, like some sort of turbo charged jet engine filled with acid. Obviously thinking that made me a tad hesitant on whether to give it a go or not. Luckily my shallowness kicked in and told me to go for it.

The Jet Peel procedure is currently run only at the Paramedical Skin Clinic at their two locations in Melbourne, so I booked a ticket and jumped on a plane. I really didn’t know what I was in for but I wasn’t too concerned as it had been described as quick and painless, just what I like.

I was told there was nothing I needed to do before hand to prep my skin so I just arrived with clean skin and no make-up just in case. My treatment was being done at the Thornbury clinic and I arrived a little early because I really had no idea where Thornbury was (always better to be early than late, I say). The clinic itself was very clean and open, it had tranquil background music playing and there was lots of holistic books and trinkets around the reception area. The staff were very friendly and didn’t seem to mind that I was borrowing their couch to sleep on for 15 minutes (sorry bout that, guess I was jet lagged from that 1hr flight down from Sydney).

When my appointment time came around the beautiful owner Illesha Haywood greeted me and took me into her office for a consultation. I couldn’t help but stare at her because she looked so youthful!

Illesha explained to me that a Jet Peel combines medical grade microdermabrasion with a super powerful jet stream. The jet stream boosts the already positive effects of microdermabrasion by getting into the pores and cleaning away dead skin cells, plus it also hydrates the skin. Before I went in to begin the treatment we had to get the hideous ‘before’ shots out of the way. I tried my best to take some photos on my camera but due to the gloomy weather and me not knowing how to use my new camera properly I lucked out. Once the close-up pics were taken, Illesha analyzed my skin and asked what skin concerns I have. For me my biggest concern is aging so anything preventative is great with me, but I also have my very noticeable dark circles under my eyes and multi-toned patchy skin. Something I didn’t mention to her (because it wasn’t what I was mainly concerned about) was that until a couple years ago I had distinguishably ‘puffy’ cheeks. My skin was plump and my cheekbones were razor sharp.

After Illesha looked at my eye area closely she asked if I had recently experienced dramatic weight loss. I was shocked. You see, 2009 was a tough year for me and it showed by me dropping almost half my body weight to weigh in at a rather slim 36kg (I am only 5″1 so I didn’t look that bad!). At that time my face definitely looked a little different but I didn’t think I had lost that much weight from my face. So how did she know? Illesha told me that the muscle that runs along the top of the cheekbone had dropped dramatically, something that you usually see in people with eating disorders and it gives them that gaunt, tired look. Having Illesha point it out really made me see exactly what it was that had changed my face so much, and even though I have put back on 20kg it doesn’t make a difference to a dropped muscle. Bugger!

One of my best shots. No really, I love it.....

Illesha advised me that regular treatments like the Jet Peel and other collagen builders will help to make that area look fuller again but it will never be what it was. Once the damage is done it can’t be fixed. I guess we should all take that as a warning if you are considering dramatic weight loss!

After all this education and chatting Illesha had a beauty technician take me into the treatment room to begin. My face was cleansed twice and I was told we would be starting on my forehead which has been known to cause a brain freeze. I thought to myself that sounds very strange but whatever, I am here now! The nozzle touching my skin at first felt like rod of ice was being dragged across my skin. At first it was cold but totally bearable. As it moved down my face certain areas, such as the under eyes, were way more sensitive and the cold felt sensation felt like it was freezing my eyeballs. When it came to the lower half of my face I had the weirdest sensation that caused me to feel like I was drowning from cold air. I put this down to the fact that the water coming out is so cold and being blown at such a speed that my mind was playing a trick on me and not realising the water was actually being sucked up another tube at the same speed. Ok that was confusing and yes, I am mental.

I only had my face done which doesn’t include the neck or décolletage area, so it took about 40mins. Afterwards I felt pretty cold (lasted about 10 mins) but also refreshed and far more awake then I was when I arrived.  I have been a long time fan of microdermabrasion and started using it in my early teens, but at times I found it to be drying due to the crystals soaking up a bit too much oil from my skin. There was no evidence of this happening with the Jet Peel and my skin felt plump and smooth.

.... This one is slightly less nauseating

Illesha then took me back to her office for some ‘after’ shots and to analyze my skin again. Looking front on we both felt there was a small but noticeable improvement around the jawline and cheekbones. I was also shown the different layers of my skin using a special camera (I wish I had those photo’s!!). It showed that my skin is heavily pigmented and I have lots and lots of sun spots beneath the surface just waiting to erupt. On the plus side I had no capillaries which means I don’t have to worry about redness or those weird red lines showing up, for now. The treatment also toned down the blemishes and mozzie bites giving my skin a less ‘messy’ look.

Notice the slight lift on the jawline

Now, one week later, my skin is still smooth and I feel it has been far more hydrated than usual. I don’t drink water (at all!) so I really notice hydration levels in my skin.

Obviously this sort of treatment works best on a course of 6 or more, even though a single treatment can show results, you want to get the most out of it and continual treatments is the best way. I am going to try and get back to Melbourne on a semi-regular basis so I can keep up these treatments because I feel it has been worth it.

After reading your review of Paramedical’s ‘jet peel’ (and a couple of other blog reivews) I tried it out last week. I absolutely loved it!

I didn’t actually find it that ‘icy’. It was cold, but not freezing – certainly no brain freeze or frozen eyeballs (the person who treated me covered my eyes with fabric pads when she worked in the eye area).

I actually really liked the sensation – I would liken it to the feeling of standing at close range to a swimming pool jet. It was like having a firm face massage. Afterwards I felt invigorated, my skin looks so much better and my pores are a lot smaller looking even a few days after the treatment.

I’m a convert – it was by far the best ‘facial’ I’ve ever had and I won’t be going back to conventional day spa facials ever again. Worth every penny.

      Hi Jo,

I am so glad you had a great experience. It truly is unique and the results just can’t be compared to conventional facials. Make sure you keep us posted on your progress
      :)

      All the best,
      Kimmi

    Hi,

You look great and I have had the treatment, but your esthetician ripped you off. There in no where in Toronto, Canada you would pay more than $150 per treatment. Do some research and tell the beautiful Illeesha to stop ripping off people that is so unfair.

    Regards

    • Kimmi says:

Hi JL, Unfortunately things in Australia are far more expensive than in the USA or Canada. Due to our high import duties and much smaller population, things seem to get overcharged here. I agree the price inflation is dramatic but the price per treatment is stock standard for the Australian market.

      • JL says:

        Hi Kimmi,

I totally agree some things are more expensive in Australia, but in Canada you still have to add taxes on services, Canada still pays extra taxes for imported products and theres the tip for the esthetician. $aus nearly on par with $US, and with leasing agreements estheticians have with these companies I cannot excuse and justify extra $600 for this service. In the name of vanity ladies, I’m tired of hearing some of these outrages prices in the beauty industry in Australia, and the industry using the excuse of “distance and population”. Please, I’m a proud Aussie residing abroad and proud to say “we’re fair dinkum” I think?

        Regards
Ps: Is Derryn Hinch still on the Telly?

        • Kimmi says:

Oh I am with you 100%! The excuses the beauty industry in Australia comes up with the to justify the expense is ridiculous. I just feel it is country and industry wide, not just this one person. It would be great to see one company, clinic or store say ‘to hell with you’ to the ridiculous price difference and offer the fair price. I am realistic though and know that it is fighting an uphill battle that I don’t have the strength for. I rather save my pennies and take a nice holiday to the US or Canada each year and buy what I want then.

To be honest, I think some companies are starting to take notice. Lancome recently reduced their pricing across the board in Aus to try be more in line with the global market, and Guinot has just announced they will be doing the same. The change wasn’t much but it is a start.

Derryn is long gone from our tellies, thankfully because he was starting to look very whether. He now does the drive time slot on a talk radio station in Melbourne. He actually does VERY well in the ratings. hahaha

            Hi Kimmi,

Thank you for allowing me the platform to vent my rage and I guess for million of aussies girls, I appreciate the fact that there are platforms like yours (which I stumbled across accidentally, and gladI did) as well as facebook and Twitter today that these are tools that we can now use to our fair advantage. In the fair name of competition. We know that peptides are coming down in price because of competition in the marketplace I think we can start a little Aussie revolution and bring this industry to a fairer playing field (believe me they know they have the upper hand). I hope our hard earned Aussie $ are finding their way to some charities at least and not all being contributed to the estheticians collection of Jimmy Choo Heels.

Again I don’t mean to sound bitter and not taking it out on you, keep up the good work and I am very curious to get a reply from an esthetician who can make me understand these standard prices.

            Regards

    Hi All

Well there actually is another salon in Melbourne who also offers jet peel and after doing a bit of research it seems to me that they use the same equipment for the Jet Peel treatment, only they offer it at a fraction of the cost!
They infuse a serum which is tailor made by a pharmacist in Melbourne so they can address different skin types and concerns.

The treatment is listed as from $259 but after a visit and signing up to their email deals they often have mini facials that incorporate the jet peel at crazy low prices!!!

  4. Sienna says:

Company: The Beauty House Skin Centres
    Cost: $259.00
    Locations: Elwood, Port Melbourne, Hampton
    Link: http://www.thebeautyhouse.com.au/microdermabrasion/jet-peel-technology/

  5. Sienna says:

Better then paying the rip off $720.00, what a joke! The Paramedical Skin Clinic pride themselves on celebrity clientele – of course they can afford that. Try appealing to the general public via providing realistic prices (as the price difference is bazaar).

    • Isabella says:

      hello ladies,

yes i agree, $700+ is very expensive for a treatment. Some injectables don”t even cost that much!! I have been to the salon you mentioned above, The Beauty House and the salon did lots of research for me regarding the differences in the equipment and it seems, from the supplier, there is no difference. I experienced their Jet Peel treatment with the customised serums and the results were fantastic. And for a third of the price!

They’re a funky salon with great staff and treatments. I highly recommend them.

  6. Rebecca says:

Yes ladies – The BeautyHouse! They have 3 locations but I believe they only offer it at Elwood & Port Melbourne… You can have it teamed up with a microderm for double the results! Awesome! Love it!! Hope you all get to try it out!!!

The Paramedical Skin Clinic have a deal on the Living Social website, the treatment is only $200!!!! Perhaps it’s worth a try :)

  9. Yes Kimmi you should def pay us a visit! Let us know if your coming to town!!

  10. Sienna says:

    $200!? – that’s awesome. If only I’d seen it earlier. Hehe. 1 day deal I’m guessing…

    • Kimmi says:

Yes that is a downside with those 1 day deals. I just going out my favourite restaurant did a degustation for a quarter of the price the other day and I missed it. Absolutely devo!

  11. Tamara says:

On behalf of the Paramedical Skin Clinic, and the company who supply the Jet Peel machines in Australia (they are called Medtel), I thought I would provide a little information about the price difference between these treatments.

A number of salons are claiming to offer consumers cheap Jet Peel treatments, but consumers need to be careful because the Jet Peel that is being offered at a cheaper price is not a resurfacing treatment – it simply uses the water, air and oxygen to plump the skin rather than resurface it. The treatment at Paramedical is a deep resurfacing treatment, much deeper than microdermabrasion that cannot be performed with the cheaper treatments.

Most of the machines that these clinics use are cheap machines from Korea – the power of these cheap machines do not propel the air at 322miles/second to achieve a resurfacing effect. Only the Medtel, trademarked Jet Peel machines can do this, and there have been only a handful of these machines sold across Australia. If booking in for one of these ‘Jet Peel’ treatments, consumers will be paying for nothing more than an oxygen facial.

My suggestion is to call Medtel on 1300 938 788 before booking in anywhere for a Jet Peel treatment – they can provide you with a list of clinics in Australia who have the trademarked Jet Peel machines. Only those clinics supplied by them offer the legitimate machines – the rest are offering an inferior machine, therefore a far inferior treatment.

    • Rhonda says:

      Hi Tamara,

Thanks for the information. I have been following this with interest. I purchased the special offer off the living social deal, and am looking forward to my treatment when I am next in Melbourne (which is very soon so must make my booking !!). One question (and after reading some of these posts), I have had a couple of eye operations and am very sensitive in this area; I am assuming I am ok to have this procedure?

Also, do you know if there is a train or tram I can get from the city to Thornbury?

      many thanks
      Rhonda

  12. Tamara says:

    Hi Rhonda,

Lovely to receive your post – we look forward to welcoming you at Paramedical Skin Clinic.

Yes, you will be fine to have the treatment – however if you just mention to the therapist prior to the treatment that you’ve recently had an eye operation, and are sensitive around the eye area, that way they can adjust the pressure accordingly around the eye area. The eye is generally covered during treatment and they just adjust the eye pads slightly whilst working around the eye area.

In regards to the Thornbury clinic, the train station is located just a few hundred metres from the clinic and you can catch the train in from the city.

    Kind regards,

    Tamara

  13. Dr. Ilesha Haywood says:

    Hi gorgeous Kimmi,

We loved seeing you to give you a wonderful treat for your skin!!!

I just wanted to take the time to respond to all the lovely ladies that have been enquiring about our famous Jet Peel Medical Treatment at Paramedical Skin Clinic.

We are not a beauty salon, we are a cosmetic medical clinic specializing in anti-aging treatments for the face and body. We have a team of highly qualified specialist doctors, nurses and therapists aiming to give you the best possible results with minimal down time. The Jet Peel Medical treatment performed at Paramedical Skin Clinic is not a beauty treatment like those performed at some beauty salons; it is a medical treatment that blasts water, air and oxygen into the skin to deeply resurface and hydrate it. The staff member that performed your treatment was a cosmetic nurse.

Our Jet Peel Medical treatment is a unique treatment devised by me (a Ph.D) and our specialist team of dermatologists and cosmetic nurses who have more than 16 years’ experience in the industry. Our treatment is designed to give you great skin with long-lasting results and no downtime – our protocol is only available at Paramedical Skin Clinic.

The treatment we perform is a very different experience to the treatment performed at beauty salons where they use a serum to infuse the jet stream into the skin – which is NOT a deep resurfacing technique.

In response to JL – I have been to America twice in the past year sourcing great treatments and fresh ideas for our clinic. In New York I paid $550 for a consultation at a cosmetic clinic and $450 in another clinic also for a consultation. The treatments are much more expensive than in Australia for Fraxel, Pixel, Jet Peel Medical and IPL treatments. These cosmetic clinics are similar to our clinic we are NOT a beauty salon, we are not interested in ripping people off we just want to get real results and help people to feel better about the way they look with long lasting results.

Recently our Jet Peel Medical treatment was awarded 5 out of 5 comparing us against five other clinics for “better than Botox” treatments. The Jet Peel Medical is the latest “nocedure” treatment – ie: Non surgical treatment with no down time. We look forward to seeing you in Melbourne for your next treatment.

    Dr. Ilesha Haywood.

    • Kimmi says:

      Hi Ilesha,

Thanks so much for leaving a great, descriptive response. I hope some of my readers learnt a bit more about your practices and why your treatment is unique.

      Kindest,
