Ciccone Cosmetics – Lipstick & Lipgloss Complete Collection Review, Swatches and Photos

Ciccone Lipsticks FEATURED

You may not have heard about Ciccone Cosmetics just yet but I have no doubt they will be all over the big magazines very soon. Ciccone Cosmetics are a sparkling new Aussie brand with an adorable collection of lipsticks, and one very good lip gloss. Officially the brand was established back in 2001 and 10 years on they are finally making waves.

I personally think we will be seeing a lot more from Ciccone Cosmetics in the future, but for now, their 8 lipsticks and 1 gloss are doing fabulously. Today I am going to show you all the swatches along with my review. Like all lip products (especially lipsticks), most of them have the same feel and formula, but depending on the pigment some are more wearable.

As you probably already know, I love reviewing full collections in one hit so prepare yourself for lots of photos and a few extra words than normal.

What I Say ….

All the colours are fairly tame but the range is diverse enough to suit everyones skin tones. They contain no shimmer or glitter, and have a lovely glossy finish. The most noteworthy thing about these lipsticks are the packaging. Each lipstick is encased in a candy pink bullet which is adorned with little crystals which spell out ‘Ciccone’ around the lower half. I also like that the lip is really secure and takes a bit of force to ‘snap’ closed.

One thing I really don’t like about the packaging is that I have no way of seeing the lipstick colour from the outside. I am one of those people who have a huge lipstick collection and I need to be able to see the colours are a glance. Another reason is because I am terrible with remembering colours so just looking at the name on the bottom of the bullet doesn’t tell me what colour it is.

All my swatches have been taken on try lips after exfoliating. I am wearing no balm or primer so you can see the true results of the lipstick. Some of these colours I recommend wearing with a primer and you will find that noted in the below reviews.

Rhea

I have heard a few beauty lovers claim that Rhea is their favourite nude, but it seems my search for the perfect nude continues. Rhea is a slightly pinky-beige but it just doesn’t quite match my yellow toned pale skin. It is just too light for me. I think this would be a fabulous nude for those with pink undertones or that porcelain, english rose complexion.

It is on the sheer side and I found I needed multiple coats to really show the colour. As you can see, my lips are very dry (as always, but this is actually me on a good day!) and this colour just enhances the flakes on me. I recommend wearing a primer for this colour if you have any sign of flakiness.

Oceanus

Orange, peach and coral all continue to be a big hit this season, so if you like to stay on trend, this colour is for you. The colour is very wearable and I like how it makes my skin look much brighter by comparison.

The formula for this one feels to be on the creamier end of the scale so it was easy to apply to my lips and didn’t tug or pull. It covers my flakiness quite well and the colour looks even. This is one of my faves and I usually don’t like anything close to orange!

Before

After

Cupid

I will admit this one scared me. I like dark coloured lips but I was scared this dusty plum colour would clash with my skin tone. After wearing it for a couple of days I actually have grown fond of the colour and think it works for me. The colour is a sheer-medium coverage.

The formula itself isn’t as creamy as some others but it didn’t tug as much as Rhea. One thing I don’t care for with this colour is that no matter what I did, I couldn’t get the colour to look even. I found it gripped to certain areas and I just couldn’t get a flawless application. The right lip primer or balm may fix this but I found my attempts with balm just made it even more ‘slippery’.

Before

After

Hera

I LOVE HERA. It is a really beautiful, simple, understated colour that goes with everything. The pinky-browny colour is sheer but pigmented enough to make a difference.

The formula is again on the creamy side and it was super easy to apply. I think it actually makes my lip surface look more even and healthy.

Before

After

Athena

Undoubtably the brown of the collection, and surprisingly this one actually looks wearable on me. Usually I cannot wear browns because my skin colouring around my chin already makes me look like I have a dirty face, and I find browns can enhance that, but this one hasn’t done that too much.

Unfortunately I did find the same few quirks with this formula as I did with Cupid. The application is smooth and easy but getting the look of a flawless application was difficult. In the below photo you can see I managed to get my top lip almost even but it is quite different to my bottom lip.

Before

After

Apollo

I think Apollo is very much a my-lips-but-better colour. It is very close to my natural lip colour but slightly more brown. I think it is a great neutral tone that gives some colour without being stand-out. A perfect lip colour if you are doing a bold eye or cheek look.

This one was a tad dryer than the rest so I experienced some tugging. I think the application is more even than I managed to get with Athena or Cupid, but still not 100%. This one could be easily fixed with a good primer.

Before

After

Voluptas

Red Hot Siren Alert!! At first swipe all I could think was WOW. This one is red! Actually, it is a slightly fuchsia based red if you are looking at it in dark lighting, but in daylight (as shown below) it is RED. If you love bold lips, or red lips, or both …. you need this lippy!

Application was intense. It is very smooth to apply, one sweep gives you opaque coverage but it is layerable so the more layers you do, the intenser it gets. I highly recommend only applying this lipstick with a lip brush and if you don’t have a defined lip line (which I don’t!) you need to use a lip liner. The colour is so rich that any mistake in the outer lines will be highly visible, and this one stains a bit, so take the time and apply it right the first time.

Before

After

Aphrodite

Bold, dark and mysterious is what I think when I look at this lipstick. It is one of those attention-demanding shades so you really need to pair it with barely-there eye and cheeks.

The formula is a tad dryer than Voluptas but it is still easy to apply straight from the bullet. However, I recommend you apply this one the same as Voluptus …. with a lip brush! Any imperfections on the lip line is visible and I find this colour makes smudges look like dirt, instead of obviously smudged lipstick. This one tints your lips as well so it lasts quite well even through eating and drinking.

After

Zeus

You wouldn’t think it would be hard to find a good clear gloss but I have actually found it troubling. Zeus is the clear gloss everyone needs and I am so happy to finally have it. In the tube the gloss actually looks white and cloudy but on the lips it is clear-as-day clear.

Zeus: The Lipgloss

It isn’t sticky, gooey or oily. The finish isn’t reflective or like plastic. It is just a clear gloss that makes your lips look healthy, and I love how it makes my top lip look more pouty. Honestly, everyone should have a good clear gloss and I am recommending this one!

Helen and Frank gave life to Ciccone Cosmetics in 2001. Ten years on, their bright-lipped baby is quickly growing into a boisterous, force-to-be-reckoned-with teen.

There are eight gorgeous lipsticks and two lipliners in our range – with soft pinks, beige and chocolate colours mixed together and a thick clear gloss to wear alone or over the top to create luscious looking, simply irrekissable lips.

The packaging is so noteworthy. I just wish it had a little window to see what colour it is from the outside, or if the sticker on the bottom was the same colour as the lipstick!
