My First Bridesmaid Experience At A Wedding

vintage wedding cake toppers

I have been to two weddings in my life. The first one was a promotion we ran at the radio station I used to work for, so I am not sure if that really counts seeing as though I was working and not a guest. The second one however was my brothers, and it happened just the other weekend on January 22.

I know many of you were wondering where I had been the last couple of weeks and I am terribly sorry for disappearing on you. Hopefully this post will explain a little bit about why that happened, but mostly I am telling you about this wedding so I can share with you my first every bridesmaid hair and make-up.

Old Magazine Beauty Ads – 19 Magazine from 1973

19 Magazine June 1973 Cover

I love looking at beauty ads in magazines. Modern magazines are now filled with them, often coming close to taking up 50% of the entire magazine, but that wasn’t how it was 30 odd years ago. How do I know? During the holiday season my mother and I started to address her hoarding of unnecessary memories. In one of the many piles of junk, we came across some old women’s interest magazines from when she was a young lady. Today I am going to show you the ads from an issue of 19 Magazine from June 1973.

The front cover

What Is 19 Magazine?

19 Magazine was a women’s interest magazine produced by IPC Magazines in London. It was sold in many countries, including Australia (for just 50 cents!), New Zealand, Rhodesia (which I think is now known as Republic of Zimbabwe), Nigeria, Canada and Sweden.

The topics covered included beauty, fashion, fictional stories and a heavy focus on music.

Top 5 Beauty Blog Posts Of 2011

Top Beauty Posts of 2011

With 2011 only days away from ending, I wanted to give a quick refresh on our Top 5 beauty blog posts from 2011. These top 5 are purely ranked by statistics, so they are the ones people read the most, not necessarily the ones I or anyone else actually liked the most.

If you are only new to The Plastic Diaries, or new to beauty blogs in general, or maybe have been a long time reader but just so happened to miss the below posts, do have a read because some of them aren’t half bad (I hope!). I am also going to give you an update on any findings, news or simple changes since the original post went live, if applicable.

ghd – ghd Style New Hair Styling Range Review

ghd Final Fix Hairspray

One haircare brand I never really used in the past was ghd’s hair styling range. Not because they were bad products or anything, it was just because their look and ‘feel’ never really did it for me. Shallow, I know, but packaging and ease of picking a product means a lot to me. I suck at doing my hair so I need really easy to use products.

Late last year, ghd released their new look styling range…. and now I am loving them. Today I am doing a brief review about the new look and why I am loving the change.

Some of the old ghd styling products

What I Say ….

  • There are now just 10 essential products in the entire range and they are broken down into categories for easily picking what you need.
  • The categories are colour coded, and they are pretty colours too. Black (everyday protection), Rose (curls and waves), Green (sleek and straight), Purple (volume), Blue (shine) and Silver (fix and hold).Read the rest of this post

Pantene Pro-V – Aqua Light Shampoo and Conditioner Review, Photos, Competition and My Very Own TV Commercial

In some circles, Pantene is a dirty word. When I worked in my local hair dressing salon as a teenager I was always told that Pantene was the devil. I was lead to believe that all the things I hate about my hair are because I used Pantene. I have now learnt that is completely false but I still found myself not using Pantene very often. Why? Because it was just too heavy.

I have really fine, straight-ish, fly-away hair so that means it gets oily pretty quick and it always lacks volume. Whenever I used Pantene, my hair would just become weighed down. I loved the silky soft feel but it wasn’t worth it to have to wash my hair everyday.

The new Aqua Light range from Pantene has been launched for people exactly like me. Fine-haired lasses step forward. We have a saviour.

A new look for Pantene’s latest release

What I Say ….

  • Easily the first thing I notice is the fragrance. It is a more subtle version of the signature Pantene scent that I used to love so much, and still do.
  • The packaging is spot on. The shampoo is clear and the water-like images with bubbles on the labels adds to the feel.Read the rest of this post
