It wasn’t so long ago I reported on the hottest new nail polish collection from OPI, the James Bond Skyfall Collection, was coming our way. It is to mark the 50th anniversary of James Bond films and to tie in with the newest instalment, Skyfall. Now I finally have some official images for you AND the announcement (plus a sneak peak) of the very limited edition Man With The Golden Gun top coat, which contains real 18k gold leaf flakes!
OPI Gold Leaf Top Coat
OPI has crafted the perfect, decadent Christmas treat – complete with a dash of luxury, a sprinkling of fashion, and touch of intrigue – to celebrate James Bond’s Golden Anniversary, OPI introduces an 18 karat gold leaf top coat, The Man with the Golden Gun.
Inspired by the world of 007, this stunning, real 18 karat gold top coat contains real 18 karat gold and comes packaged in a special limited edition collectable gold bottle. This luminous, rich top coat adds an additional layer of chic gold leaf texture whether painted over your favourite OPI lacquer shade to create a flecked gold appearance or applied directly onto the nail itself.
For 50 years Bond beauties have graced the big screen with their dazzling looks and opulent style, and gold has always played a prominent role.
Gold transcends time; from the first Bond film to the soon to be released – Skyfall – Bond Girls have adorned themselves with gold accessories from jewelry and heels to clutches. The OPI The Man With the Golden Gun Top Coat’s radiant hue and stunning 18 karat gold leaf texture and patterns take accessorising for the party season to new level.
That is the official word from the OPI press release, and I think it says it all. Now there is some serious question as to whether this top coat is the exact same as the SEPHORA by OPI It’s Real 18K Gold Top Coat 18K Gold (USA $30) but as I have been unable to get my hands on either of them, I can’t comment just yet. Of course that isn’t enough for me to let it rest so I checked with OPI and the final word is that these two are different ….
The Sephora product is pulverized gold leaf like a gold glitter. Man with a Golden gun is chunks of gold leaf.
The Sephora by OPI gold top coat
The recommended retail price for the limited edition James Bond top coat (pictured at the start of this post) is AUS $40 / USA $30 and will go on sale in October.
I cannot contain my excitement for this top coat and I will pay top dollar for a bottle. Seriously. Look at it ….
OPI James Bond Skyfall Collection
The Skyfall collection contains 12 nail lacquers each named after a James Bond movie. Below are the bottle photos of the entire collection, all available from October.
Stockists Details
AUS $19.95 from David Jones and Adore Beauty

I am in love with this collection and The Man With the Golden Gun. I can see where a lot of my money will go, this Fall.
I will be right there with you!!
Want!!!
Well said, Beauty Snippets!
Truely beautiful colours. I’m unashamedly traditional with my nail colours, but I love Opi and I could be encouraged to go the gold leaf. Looks great in the pic…
Sue
I think it is a really special touch and definitely not an everyday nail look. If you like traditional nail colours think how amazing it would look with red or pink!
Wow– this is gorgeous!! I LOVE your NOTD– it’s really stunning!!!!
Hi Lola, I would love to take claim for this but I am afraid it isn’t my nails! This is the official swatch released by OPI. I guarantee to do a swatch of my own as soon as I get my little hands on a bottle. xox
I’m not a fan of gold polishes but this is beautiful as well as your nails. I might actually splurge on this.
I definitely think this is going to be worth the splurge. I would love to say those are my nails but I am afraid that image is the official swatch from OPI HQ. I will do one as soon as the bottle is released.
That top coat is GORGEOUS! I simply must have it hehe
I am right there with you!
Ooh wow, that collection is HOT! I love that top coat so much!
Which shade is calling your name?

Oh wow… I can see all my money disappearing the day this comes out.. which is great for my nails, not so good for my bank account. I mean, seriously – they’re all amazing. Look at the gold leaf top coat! I want at least 5 of these.. yeah I’m in pretty deep trouble with this collection.
Hahaha don’t worry Samantha. I am in the same trouble as you! And I am not sure 5 bottles of the gold top coat will be enough. These are LIMITED EDITION!!! Ah, that word terrifies me.
i.need.the.gold.topcoat!!!
so its $40 australian dollars for the full sized bottle then?
thats not too bad considering chanel are that price hehe. i must get me a bottle of this!! cant wait!!
EXACTLY, Lulu, you make a brilliant point. $40 is the cost of regular top-shelf nail polish so surely this divine top coat will be worth it.

I just purchased mine off eBay! They’re selling them for US$29 per bottle. Shipping from the US to Australia cost as much as the bottle, so to make my purchase worthwhile, I bought two bottles.
Hi Ange,
Oh i hope it is real!! I definitely do not recommend buying OPI off eBay as it can be a breading ground for black and grey market. If it arrives and you have the slightest inkling it isn’t real do not be afraid to request a refund. eBay have a special section for reporting possible black/grey market products.
xox
eBay was a must, because I want that top coat and I want it NOW! As far as I’m aware, you still can’t even buy any of the James Bond collection in store yet in Australia (I bought my Skyfall polishes on a recent trip to Singapore and only found out about MWTGG when I got home). Even the OPI Australia website has no sign of them. I’ve bought OPI polishes off eBay before, still barcoded and I don’t doubt the quality. Plus with the back up of buyer protection and insurance from both eBay and PayPal, you can’t go too wrong. Why pay full in-store, marked up retail prices if you don’t have to?
(Mind you, my MWTGG was not discounted at all, but I highly anticipate that they will be worth it!)
Well that is good to hear Ange. I know I am very eager to get my hands on a bottle of Man With The Golden Gun!
Good point, Ange. I purchased mine from eBay and I purchase ALL of my OPI polishes from eBay as well. So far, they have all been authentic. Thank goodness!
That is good news! I would love to know which seller you use if you are willing to share?!?!?!
YES! I would definitely wear the 18k gold flakes on my nails! As a matter of fact I’m wearing them right now. My order of “The Man With The Golden Gun” 18k Gold Coat arrived today and I LOVE it! I’m wearing it over one of my favorite nail colors, “Glossy” by Sally Hansen—a black polish with a shimmering deep red undertone. It’s nice!
Ooooo it sounds amazing!
Sure! I don’t mind giving the name of the eBay sellers I use. Sorry that I’m just now responding. The eBay seller I used to purchase this Man With The Golden Gun 18K Top Coat from is: lacquered-up. You have to spell it exactly as you see it in lowercase with the hyphen in between. Other eBay sellers I use to purchase OPI are: ryuhy77, and s_d_miro. You should spell them out as they appear as well. I hope this helps!
Until next time!
Thanks RavenWind, that is really kind of you!
Aww! You’re welcome, Kimmi! How are you enjoying Man With The Golden Gun 18K Top Coat? Do you own it? Have any favorite nail colors by OPI?
I have actually moved on to being totally obsessed with You Only Live Twice in the Skyfall collection. It has the most incredible cherry shimmer and a beautiful variation on a red/pink mani. Have you seen that one yet?
Yes! I have seen that one. I’ve seen all of the Skyfall swatches for this winter. There’s a website call The PolishAholic. Just google it with Skyfall in the search engine and it shows all of the swatches.
I’m more obsessed with glitters, so the only other polish I have from the Skyfall Collection is “The Living Daylights” top coat. It looks great over black polish (or any really dark polish probably). I thought about getting the blue polish in the Skyfall Collection (don’t remember the name), because I’m just starting to get into blue polishes. However, I discovered a navy blue polish by Essie called “Midnight Cami” and changed my mind. I’m into either glittery or dark color polishes. Every now and then I may feel extra peppy and wear a bright color.
“You Only Live Twice” IS a pretty color though! It’s just not me. I have “Germanicure” and “Every Month Is Oktoberfest” by OPI. Those are great. They’re from the Fall 2012 Germany collection.
Anyhow, I can talk all day long on makeup and polishes, but I think I’ve talked your head off enough today already. Lol!! I don’t want to scare you away. Have a great day, Kimmi!
Aww you are very sweet, The PolishAholic is a dear blogger friend and she is one of my favourite swatchers of all time. I am so glad you know her site!
Midnight blue or navy colours are one of my favourites too. They are a very classy take on dark polish and they tend to go with everything. Please keep me posted on your nail polish discoveries. I could talk about it all day as well! xox
You seem sweet as well, Kimmie!
I went to the mall several hours ago (it’s been so LONG since I have visited the mall, that I can’t even say. I’ve turned into a homebody.) and visited the store Forever 21 searching for a particular nail color by their brand, Love & Beauty. “Disco Glitter” is the name of it and you guessed it….it’s glitter polish. A combination of rainbow and silver glitter. Very pretty! Unfortunately, the store didn’t have any polish for sale at all. My first time walking into Forever 21 since it opened several months ago and I don’t even get what I want.
I will just go online and purchase it. Thank goodness I found it online first. I discovered it from a person on YouTube that I’m subscribed to. She did swatches of MANY different silver and silver/rainbow mixed glitters over black polish on each finger and this one was the one that caught my eye (that and “Rainbow Connection” by OPI). Each finger had a different silver or silver/rainbow glitter over it, which makes it ten different brands and colors.
The next store I went into (been dying to try it out as well) was Sephora. I DID find what I wanted in there. They have a great selection of polishes! The glitter ones were my favorite of course. I apologize for not remembering the names of them. I just remember a partial name of one of the ones I tried (I tested only two and I’m wearing black polish, so they look really cool on my fingers)……it’s called something with the name poparrazi in it. It’s a mixture of small size copper glitter and medium size metallic gold glitter. Nice! The other one was just medium sized dark silver glitter….gunmetal silver I think would be the best way to describe the color.
Anyhow, that’s my latest polish story. If you have any, feel free to share! Have a great weekend!
Until next time…….
Thank you so much for sharing your shopping adventure with me. Forever 21 and Sephora are easily my most favourite stores in the USA. I could live in them if it wasn’t illegal. I am so envious of your haul and even if Forever 21 didn’t have the nail polish at least you can still jump online and grab it. Forever 21 are one of the few stores that actually ship to Australia so I am always buying from there.
I hope you are having a lovely weekend as well. It is really hot in Sydney so I need to keep sitting in front of the refrigerator … which I am going to go do right now! x
Hi Kimmi!
It’s been a while. There are two polishes that I purchasd online today from Forever 21…..”Crystal Ball” and “Silver Glitter”. “Crystal Ball” is a mixture of small and, I think medium-sized, silver and rainbow hexagram glitters. Or, it could be small and large-sized. Not sure. It looks stunning. The “Silver Glitter” is just microsized silver and rainbow glitter. Both of these are pretty. The reason I went and got them today was because Forever 21 has a one day special where you get Free Shipping, regardless of the amount of your order. This is interesting because it’s the shipping cost on this website that has kept me from buying this nail polish in the first place. The regular shipping cost is higher than the cost of the polish! So, that kept me away. Today, I felt like looking and admiring polish again…..that’s when I saw the Free Shipping deal. I thought to myself, “If I really want this nail polish, TODAY is the time to get it”. So, I did. Lol.
Anyhow, I got another polish today by NYX called “Frizzy Spots”. So cool! Had to get it. It’s a black jelly base polish with small and large hexagram shaped silver and rainbow glitter in it. Go online and Google swatches for it, Kimmi. It’s pretty. I definitely plan to wear it over a solid black polish like most of the “swatchers” of it suggested.
Another polish I got, was a few weeks ago by NYX called “Dorothy”. Another beauty. It’s a black jelly based polish with micro and large hexagram shaped red glitter. Nice! It is actually identical (a dupe more like) to Deborah Lippman’s Ruby Red Slippers. You can Google that swatch as well.
Those are latest Polish stories!
Well, have a great week, Kimmi! I hope you are still keeping cool from the Sydney heat. It’s cold here in the U.S.
WOW that sounds like a nice little polish haul. Deborah Lippmann’s Ruby Red Slippers is one of my all time favourites and I had no idea NYX made one that was a dupe for it. I will definitely check that out. Thank-you so much for updating me on your adventures!!
Sydney has been warming up quite a bit but I have been sick for the past couple months that has left me with a constant temperature anyway, so I think it is hot all the time!I hope your winter won’t be too dramatic. Do you get snow where you live? I dream of a snowy winter because we don’t get it in Sydney.
Hi, Kimmi!
I really enjoy sharing polish stories with you. It’s terrible not to have gal friends around. Lol!
Anyhow, Yes, we get snow here where I live. Very little though. Every now and then, we’d get a lot of it. Most of the time, the snow would melt completely away in a few hours.
I got NYX’s Frizzy Spots nail polish today! I LOVE it, and it DOES look great over black polish! I used a regular solid black polish on all of my nails, and I added the NYX polish to just my middle and pinky fingers on both hands….there is a lot of glitter in this polish, which can be overwhelming, so it’s best to be on just a few fingers. The glitter really sparkles!!! So many pretty rainbow colors flashing through them.
You have any new discovered nail polishes? Have you checked out swatches of NYX’s Dorothy or Frizzy Spots online yet?
Have a great weekend!
I love hearing your stories! Perhaps you should start a blog because I am sure I wouldn’t be the only one to enjoy them! Even start with a Tumblr or Facebook page?
I have no new nail discoveries as yet because I have been really unwell but I am having my gallbladder out on Friday and I am hoping I will be healthy and fit after that.
Oh, Kimmi! I apologize. Here I am going on about crummy nail polish and you’re unwell. Foegive me. I will pray for you and I’m sure that God will bring you out of the gall bladder surgery with success.
I would LOVE to have a nail polish blog, but my digital camera doesn’t take very good pictures of my nails…..believe me, I’ve TRIED! I don’t want to have a blog with being able to post pictures….there would be no point. However, as weird as this sounds, the camera on my cell takes the best pictures. Once I get it turned back on, I will probably start a blog…just posting my nail adventures and stuff.
Anyhow, to wrap things up, I received the “Crystal Ball” glitter polish by love & beauty (Forever 21 brand) today. It’s gorgeous! It has large and small hexagram shaped rainbow and silver glitter in it. It REALLY sparkles!! It sparkles with very little light too.
Have a good week, and I wish you the very best with your gall bladder surgery. I’m sure you will turn out fine.
P.S. My concern about you will probably get the best of me, so, as soon as you’re able to email me (after the surgery), let me know that you’re okay. Alright? My email is: twkpops78@msn.com
Haha don’t apologize! I love nail polish stories. The surgery is minor and I will be fine. I am just freaking out over having to have a needle. I have a terrible phobia.
I think you have a good idea to wait until you can take pictures you like. You won’t feel good about it if you aren’t happy with your photos. Crystal Ball sounds so lovely. I am a glitter addict to the core.
I will do a post on the blog, Twitter and on Facebook as soon as I am awake and able to, so don’t panic. I know I will be healthy
